What is Newspapers in Education?
The Durango Herald, Cortez Journal, The Mancos Times and The Dolores Star are happy to offer the Newspapers in Education Program to local schools! We currently provide newspapers free of charge to teachers for use in classroom instruction. Not limited to current events, our newspapers are put to use teaching comparative math, politics, writing skills, reading comprehension, marketing, and many other skills, all the while helping students engage with their local community, the nation, and the world. In the future, we hope to be able to offer greater access to teaching resources as well as student programs, such as Shadow Days at the newspaper and participation in Make a Difference Day. To do all this, we need your help! Participating in the Pick of the Litter Contest will show your support for our local students and teachers. Remember, young readers are future leaders!
